Front door with Arched Transom and sidelites for a statement entrance

Front door with Arched Transom and sidelites for a statement entrance

For this Front door with Arched Transom and sidelites project in the Greater Toronto Area, the homeowners wanted their grand front arch to match the modern style of the rest of the home. The original double doors with decorative glass felt busy and a little dated. They asked for a cleaner design that would keep the drama of the arch, bring in natural light and create a strong modern entrance.

Project overview: Front door with Arched Transom and sidelites

Smart Choice Windows & Doors designed and manufactured a custom entry system at our facility in Toronto. After production, our team installed it at this GTA home, using the existing arched opening. The single front door lines up with the exterior arch, so the entire entrance now feels balanced and intentional.

The updated design includes:

  • a matte black front door with a smooth, contemporary surface;

  • sleek horizontal steel inserts that add subtle modern detail;

  • a large arched glass transom that follows the curve of the front arch;

  • full-height clear sidelites that bring natural light deep into the foyer;

  • proportions that match the scale of the house for a tailored, high-end look.

From the street, the entrance appears as one bold composition instead of several competing elements. Inside, the glass opens views to the front garden and makes the hallway feel brighter and more spacious throughout the day.

From ornate double doors to a clean modern statement

Before the upgrade, the decorative double doors divided the opening into smaller sections. They also pulled attention away from the beautiful arch above. Because of the heavy glass pattern and paneling, the entrance felt more traditional than the rest of the façade.

Now a single arched front door with sidelites anchors the centre of the opening. Horizontal steel lines echo other modern details on the exterior, so the design looks consistent from every angle. As a result, the arch itself becomes the hero, framed by clear glass and a simple black door.

Built for comfort, durability and everyday use

Behind the modern look, this door system is designed for everyday life in Canadian weather. The insulated door panel and quality frame help reduce drafts around the entrance. We also select glass elements that let in generous daylight and create a pleasant indoor atmosphere.

Because the materials are durable and low-maintenance, homeowners can enjoy a premium appearance with simple cleaning instead of frequent repainting or repairs. This front door is designed to stay beautiful for years, not just for the first season.
